  1. Let the child decorate the cardboard roll using crayons.
  2. Cut circles from cellophane of different colours.
  3. Let your child help you tape the cellophane to one end of the cardboard roll.
  4. The child can experiment looking through his colour monoculars

 

Pull-along clatter bang Single A pull-along noise-maker Empty tin/plastic cans (former are preferred)
  1. Thread a string through the empty cans. (make sure there are no sharp edges)
Bouncy painting

Single Fun painting with a ball Tennis ball, paints, large sheet of paper, mat
  1. Dip the tennis ball in paint and bounce it on the sheet.
  2. Try rolling and spinning as well to see the effects.
  3. Use a mat in the area but despitre that be ready for some mess!

  1. Draw with candle/wax crayon on the sheet of paper.
  2. Now paint over the wax with watery paint.
  3. Watch the waxy design appear like magic

 

Make a ball catching station

Single A simple craft that kids can play with A large empty cardboard box, paints/crayons, scissors, glue, old magazines
  1. Cut out arches on the longer side of the box towards the bottom.
  2. So that the arches are like doors through which balls can roll in.
  3. Decorate the catching station. You can choose a theme for decorating it if you want (eg. Nature, street, home). Cut pictures out from the magazine to colplete the theme.
  4. Now stand at a distance and roll balls inside the station

 

Paint pot holder Single A non-spill paint pot holder for fewer messes An empty shoe-box, crayons/paints, empty plastic yogurt cups
  1. Stand the shoebox and decorate it.
  2. Fill it with yogurt cups so that the cups are packed tightly.
  3. Paint pot holder is ready.

Stick-puppet

Single A stick puppet for pretend-play Construction paper, markers, waste cloth/ paper of different colours, glue, scissors
  1. On construction paper cut the outline of a human figure.
  2. Make the eyes, ears and mouth.
  3. Using waste paper or cloth cut clothes for the figure eg. a dress, skirt, shorts etc. Cut out a hat if you want. You could consider pasting pieces of yarn as hair as well.
  4. Let the child dress-up the puppet.
  5. Glue a craft-stick onto one leg of the puppet and now your puppet-friend is ready for pretend play, story-time in the puppet theatre or as a decoration for your muffins!

Octopus

Single Easy to make octopus with disposable bowl Paper/foam bowl, tempura paint, stapler, construction paper (2 colours) google eyes, markers, glue
  1. Paint the bowl using tempura paint and let dry.
  2. Cut arms for the octopus.
  3. Make suction cups on the arms using a marker or cut circles from the other construction paper and glue them on.
  4. Staple the arms onto the bowl.
  5. Paste the google eyes, and a mouth.

 

Paper Zebra

 

Single Animal puppets for pretend-play White construction paper, google eyes, black wool, 2 clothes pegs, black crayon
  1. Draw the body of the zebra
  2. The child can now do the rest. He/she can cut the construction paper, paste the eyes, paste the mane and tail, draw the stripes of the zebra. You might need to help in attaching the clothes pegs.
  3. The zebra is ready for pretend play, story-time in the puppet theatre or for a place in the zoo!

Cookie monster puppet

 

Single Cookie monster puppet for pretend play

2 white paper plates, 2 pom-poms, stapler, blue paint, paint brush

  1. Paint both paper plates blue.
  2. Cut one paper plate into half.
  3. Place one half with the painted side facing upwards on the unpainted side of the full paper plate. Staple them. Do the same for the other half too.
  4. Now glue the pom-poms onto the cut-half painted face as eyes.
  5. Cookie monster is ready. Slide your hand inside the pockets made by stapling the painted halves.
 

Lion mask

 

Single Stick masks for pretend-play Paper plate, orange paint, paint brush, scissors, brown and yellow construction paper, scissors and marker
  1. Paint the under side of the white paper plate orange.
  2. Cut 2 holes for eyes.
  3. Cut a nose and draw the mouth.
  4. Take brown  and yellow paper strips (approx. 4inches wide and 6inches in length.). Make slits along the strips for the lion’s mane.
  5. Staple the strips along the edges.
  6. On the lower end, staple a craft-stick for holding the mask in place.
  7. Roar time starts. Beware, the lion is on the prowl!
Hand puppet

Single Hand puppet for bedtime stories.

Pair of gloves, Photocopies/ Printout of characters from your favorite story books, Thick paper, pieces of Velcro, sewing kit

 

  1. With the help of parents stitch hook side of the Velcro to the tip of the finger.
  2. Scan the characters from the storybooks and print them on glossy paper.
  3. Glue  the paper on a thick sheet of paper for extra support and cut out the characters.
  4. Glue loop side of the Velcro on the backside of the character.
  5. Wear your gloves and stick the characters on to fingertip with the help of  Velcro

Halloween ghost

Single Foot painting Black construction paper, white paint, bottle cap to make eyes
  1. Cover sole of foot with white paint.
  2. Stamp on black paper.
  3. Stamp bottle cap to make eyes on the ghost.
